Where to buy blanks

Get the right chip, then program it free.

EdgeNFC is software: we provision and verify tags, we don't sell them. Buy blank NTAG 424 DNA tags from a specialist supplier — we recommend GoToTags — and the free EdgeNFC app turns them into tags that prove they're real.

What to buy

Two tags cover almost every project.

One sticks to things, one survives things. Both are the same chip — which is the part that matters.

Buy NTAG 424 DNA — nothing else works.

EdgeNFC verifies a tap using SDM/SUN (a per-tap counter and CMAC the chip generates itself). Only the NTAG 424 DNA has that hardware. NTAG 213, 215, 216, NTAG 424 DNA TT-only listings, Mifare, and "NFC sticker" generic parts will not work — they cannot be provisioned and every tap will fail to verify. Check the chip name on the product page before you pay.

Prices are list prices at GoToTags, shown per tag at the quantity break noted. They are approximate and subject to change — the GoToTags store is the authority, and shipping and tax are extra. EdgeNFC does not sell tags, take a commission, or handle your order; you buy from GoToTags under their terms. See Tags & third-party hardware.

How it fits together

Buy the tags. Keep the keys. Verify the taps.

1 · Buy blanks anywhere

Any genuine NTAG 424 DNA tag from any supplier works — GoToTags is simply who we'd buy from. Tags arrive unprovisioned with factory keys, which is exactly what you want.

2 · Provision with the free app

The EdgeNFC Android app writes your own key and configures SDM on the tag. We never hold a copy of a DIY master key; hosted keys are envelope-encrypted.

3 · Every tap proves itself

A tap opens a URL carrying a counter and a CMAC. Our Rust/Wasm core checks it — hosted, or on your own infrastructure with a DIY edge package.

Start before you buy

You don't need a tag to try it. Test a Tap in the app simulates a genuine tap in your browser, so you can see the whole flow first.

FAQ

Before you order

How do I know a tag is really NTAG 424 DNA?

The product listing must say NTAG 424 DNA in the chip specification — not "NTAG 424 compatible", not "NFC tag 888 bytes", not NTAG 213/215/216. If a listing won't name the chip, don't buy it. Suppliers who serve developers, like GoToTags, always state it.

Inlay or token — which should I pick?

Adhesive wet inlay if the tag disappears into something you make (labels, packaging, under artwork) and cost per tag matters. Rigid PVC token if it gets handled, hung on a keyring, or lives outdoors. Neither reads well stuck directly to metal — for that, buy a tag specifically rated on-metal.

How many should I buy to start?

Ten. Provisioning is unforgiving to learn on your only tag, and the price break below 100 units is small anyway. Move to 100 or 1,000 once your flow works end to end.

Can I buy from someone other than GoToTags?

Yes, and nothing in EdgeNFC checks where a tag came from. We name GoToTags because they list the exact chip, sell in small quantities, and ship internationally. Any genuine NTAG 424 DNA tag from any supplier provisions and verifies identically.

Do I need a subscription to use my tags?

No. The Sandbox plan is free — 100 active tags, unlimited scans, no card. Paid plans raise the active-tag limit and add features; the provisioning app is free either way.

Didn't EdgeNFC sell tags directly?

We built that store and then chose not to run it. Selling physical goods makes us the merchant of record for sales tax, shipping and returns in every jurisdiction we ship to — overhead that would come straight out of building the product. Buying direct from a specialist gets you a better price and more choice than we could offer anyway.
